Hunger Games Amazon’s Bestseller

It’s official – Amazon announced that The Hunger Games trilogy has now outsold the Harry Potter series. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

The series follows Katniss and her appearance in “The Hunger Games. Set in a future where the U.S. has been fragmented following a series of disasters, the games are similar to gladitorial combat and each sector sends a girl and boy to fight to the death.

From the authors webpage:

The Hunger Games: Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, “The Hunger Games.” The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

Catching Fire: Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she’s afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her more is that she’s not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol’s cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can’t prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

Mockingjay: Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.nces will be horrifying.

From Amazon’s press release:

Amazon.com, Inc. today announced that the Hunger Games trilogy has outsold the seven-book Harry Potter series, making Suzanne Collins’ three-part saga the best-selling book series of all time onAmazon.com, taking into consideration print and Kindle book sales combined. All of the books in the Hunger Games and Harry Potterseries are available for Kindle owners with a Prime membership to borrow for free in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

“Since debuting in 2008, Katniss Everdeen and the Hunger Games have taken the world by storm, much as Harry Potter did a decade before,” said Sara Nelson, Editorial Director of Books and Kindle, Amazon.com. “Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter’s seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time. Customers love these books and all three titles are consistently on our Top 10 lists in both print and Kindle formats, and ‘The Hunger Games’ is also the most-borrowed book in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.”

“The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay” are published by Scholastic, and are all currently in the top 50 books in both print and Kindle formats.
