SNEAK PEEK: SO WRONG IT MUST BE RIGHT by Nicole Helm

So Wrong It Must Be Right - HighResSO WRONG IT MUST BE RIGHT by Nicole Helm

If you meander into my suburban backyard in the height of summer, you may just find yourself standing next to a row of corn as tall as you, or cucumber vines flinging themselves around tomato plants heavy with fruit. You’ll definitely find a weed or two to pick in between rows of carrots.

I get a few strange looks from my neighbors (mostly over the towering corn stalks), but it’s a fun way for my family to spend the spring and summer. My boys love digging in the dirt and planting seeds and realize they helped make that plant grow, and that tomato they’re eating? Totally something they did themselves. Personally, I love knowing I can just walk out to the backyard to get a few ingredients for whatever I’m cooking up for supper.

We don’t grow much, but it’s an enjoyable, family-fun activity that makes us all smile. (Well, except for the one time squash bugs killed my oldest’s beloved pumpkin plant. There were a few tears that day).

I got to use my minimal vegetable growing knowledge when writing my sexy contemporary romance SO WRONG IT MUST BE RIGHT because the hero, Carter, has turned his entire urban front and back yard into a full-on urban farm. I love the idea of that—no grass or bushes to prune, just useful, edible produce.

Now, I’m far too lazy to go that route (also I have a feeling the subdivision wouldn’t be a fan), but the great thing about a little backyard farming is I get a taste for it, and then I get to go to my computer and imagine what it would be like.

Carter’s a farmer by birth, which means regardless of whether he’s working a traditional farm, or turning an urban landscape into a edible oasis, he loves the challenge, routine, and satisfaction of working the land and growing food people get to eat and enjoy.

It’s fun to imagine, and it’s fun to get a little taste of in my own backyard. Besides, I’m a writer, I don’t mind getting a few weird looks from my neighbors.

Its all fun and games until fantasy gets real . . .

At twenty-seven, Dinah Gallagher thought she’d have it all figured out. Instead, she’s having mind-blowing online sex with a man she knows nothing about and fighting for her rightful place in the family business. Part of that battle means expanding their century-old restaurant by getting the stubborn urban farmer next door to sell them his lot.

But Carter Trask is tired of being pushed around—especially by rich families like the Gallaghers. All he has left is the little farm he’s scratched out of his grandmother’s yard. At least he can blow off steam with the anonymous woman he’s been emailing for the past eight months, who makes his every sexual fantasy come alive—even if it’s only online.

When Dinah suddenly realizes that Carter’s gardens look just like some of her mystery man’s photos, she can’t resist trying to turn her dreams into reality. Against his better judgment, Carter joins in the game. But in real life, passion has a way of becoming very complicated, very quickly. And sometimes the wrong choice can turn out to be oh so right . . .
